Our Review of
Just for the Summer

I just finished reading Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez, and wow, I loved it! The story starts off with a hilarious premise: Justin, a 29-year-old engineer, posts on Reddit about how he’s the "good luck charm" for his exes, who all find their soulmates immediately after they break up with him. Emma, a traveling nurse, reads his post and realizes she’s in the same boat. After a few exchanges, they come up with a wild plan to date for a few weeks, break up, and hopefully free themselves from their "curses."

From the very first message exchange between them, I was hooked. Their witty banter is everything. The way they connect, not just through humor but through deep, personal conversations, makes you root for them from the start. When they finally meet in person, their chemistry is undeniable. It’s like a slow burn that hits you like a freight train—so much tension and attraction.

What really stands out in this book, though, is how Abby Jimenez blends romance with serious topics. It’s not just a cute love story. Emma and Justin both have pasts that are complicated and painful—Emma has family issues, and Justin is dealing with his own emotional struggles. But what makes this book so special is how these themes, like PTSD, panic attacks, and family dysfunction, are handled with such care. It makes the romance feel real and grounded. It's emotional but in a way that’s cathartic, not overly heavy.

As the book goes on, you watch Emma and Justin grow—not just in their relationship but as individuals. Emma’s whole journey of learning to let people in, despite her fears, really hit home for me. I couldn’t help but cheer for her when she started opening her heart more, especially to Justin and his family.

The setting of the story—this cozy little cottage in Minnesota—is just perfect. It adds such a charming, intimate vibe to everything. There’s something about being in a quiet place with someone that just makes everything feel more intense. The pacing is also great, with the right balance of emotional highs and sweet moments, keeping you invested until the very last page.

In short, I absolutely loved Just for the Summer. It’s a mix of sweet, funny, and deeply emotional moments that left me with a smile on my face and a full heart. If you're into romance with a real emotional punch, this one’s for you. And if you're looking for another great read, check out Funny Story by Emily Henry on our site—trust me, you won’t regret it!
