Exporting a file to DjVu format is a great idea to preserve the quality of a scanned document while keeping the size of the document small, but what do you do with it now?
In this example, our team has taken a DjVu file (a book that has been scanned in) and used two different methods to convert it to a PDF so that you can do the same with your document in order to easily read and share it.
How to Convert DjVu to PDF
There are two main options you can use to convert your DjVu file to a PDF (if you are not au fait with code), either through an online tool or by downloading an application to your desktop.
Using an Online Tool
There are plenty of online tools to choose from for conversion of this file type but our team would recommend Convertio. Here is how we used this tool to process the file:
Step 1: Go to the Website
Find your correct conversion process.
Step 2: Upload Your File
Choose PDF as your format for conversion.
Step 3: Click "Convert"
Download your final file.
Using a Desktop Tool
In terms of a desktop application, we prefer to use Calibre for things like scanned books to help us manage our collection. Follow our easy guide below to find out how it works:
Step 1: Download Calibre
Once the app is installed, it's very easy to use.
Step 2: Click "Add Books"
Add your file from your document library.
Step 3: Click on "Convert Books"
Select PDF as the output format.
Step 4: Click "OK" to Process
Find your PDF in the output folder you selected.
How to Read Scanned PDFs Using OCR
Now that you have successfully converted your DjVu file to a PDF, you may want to extract certain information from it.
Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is incredibly helpful for this and our go-to software for this is PDF Reader Pro. Follow the guide below to get started on the process.
Step 1: Download PDF Reader Pro
Step 2: Open Your File
Click "Open File" or drag it into the Home interface.
Step 3: Click "OCR" on the Toolbar
Select the pages you want to process.
Step 3: Click "OCR"
Save your document into TXT or PDF format.
