 (Elantris, #1)

The land of Arelon is the setting for the intertwined destinies of Prince Raoden, Princess Sarene, and Gyorn Hrathen. Raoden discovers he has been affected by the Shaod, which turns its victims into grotesque beings shunned by society. Meanwhile, betrothed to Raoden, Sarene navigates political complexities and forms alliances. Hrathen, a warrior from the Fjorden Empire, attempts to convert Arelon to the Derethi faith. As conflicts unfold, Sarene takes action to thwart Hrathen's schemes and dispel misconceptions about the inhabitants of Elantris, leading to a dangerous confrontation.

Raoden uncovers a hidden pool in Elantris, where Hrathen undergoes healing. Sarene becomes suspicious of Iadon's behavior and discovers his involvement in a chilling ritual. Raoden and Sarene work together to unravel the mystery surrounding the malfunctioning AonDor.

Unity is shattered when Telrii arrives with guards, intent on ending Roial’s life. Eondel strikes down Telrii, disrupting Hrathen’s plans. Raoden is asked to assume the throne, and despite the revelation of his actual Elantrian state, the nobles rally behind him. Tensions rise as Dilaf pursues Hrathen and tracks the arts into the market district, where Dakhor monks erupt from their hidden tents.

Galladon and Karata bring Raoden to the mountaintop pool, and a revelation jolts Raoden back to consciousness. Raoden races down the mountain unlocks the power of the Dor and unveils Elantris and its neighbouring cities as a colossal Aon Rao. Hrathen escapes with Sarene, alerting Eventeo of Fjordell's invasion and Dilaf's plot. Despite the losses, Sarene and Raoden exchange vows, honoring those who sacrificed their lives.

Sanderson describes on his website that the events in the e-book happen concurrently with events in

Mistborn Books image

Mistborn: The Final Empire
(Mistborn, #1)

Three years before the novel, Kelsier, a half-skaa thief, discovers he is Mistborn and plans to overthrow the Final Empire with his crew. They train Vin, a street urchin with Allomantic powers, to spy on the nobility. Their plan involves starting a house war, but Kelsier is killed. The crew leads a successful uprising, and Kelsier passes the Eleventh Metal to Vin before dying. She confronts the Lord Ruler, defeats him with the help of Sazed and the mists, and collapses the Final Empire. Elend unites Luthadel, ushering in a new era of democratic government.

The Well of Ascension (Mistborn, #2)

The Final Empire is in chaos after the Lord Ruler's death. Elend Venture claims the throne in Luthadel, besieged by three armies. Vin and Elend discover a spy and face internal and external threats. Tindwyl trains Elend, but he is deposed. Zane pressures Vin to leave the city, but she chooses to stay with Elend. Vin and Elend plan to leave the city with the help of Sazed and the rest of the crew, hoping to find the Well of Ascension for survival.

Sazed and Tindwyl have been studying a mysterious text left by the Terrisman Kwaan. The text explains how the Lord Ruler ascended to power by deceiving his nephew, Rashek. Meanwhile, Vin, Elend, and Spook find the underground Well of Ascension in Luthadel. They are attacked, and Vin is tempted to use the power for herself, but she ultimately releases it, unleashing a powerful entity. Two months later, Sazed discovers that the text and his mind have been manipulated, causing him to lose faith.

The Hero of Ages (Mistborn, #3)

The Hero of Ages is the prophesied savior of the Terris people, foretold to find and give up the power at the Well of Ascension to save the world from the Deepness. A thousand years before the fall of the Final Empire, the Terrisman Worldbringer Kwaan believed that he had found the Hero of Ages in Alendi. However, as Alendi's quest for the Well continued, Kwaan discovered that the Terris prophecies had been altered by a mysterious force called Ruin contained within the Well. If the Hero of Ages released the power as the prophecies claimed, Ruin would be free to destroy the world. Kwaan instructed his nephew Rashek to kill Alendi and claim power for himself, remaking the world and forming the Final Empire.

Ruin's freedom allowed him to affect the world directly, increasing ashfall and summoning earthquakes. The Mistborn Vin, tricked by prophecies, released the power from the Well of Ascension, freeing Ruin. In preparation for such an event, the Lord Ruler created storage caches containing resources in cave complexes beneath certain cities. As the world crumbles and the mists claim more people, Sazed, Breeze, and Spook work to help Elend secretly take over Urteau. Meanwhile, TenSoon, the Kandra, is imprisoned and sentenced to death by the Kandra elders while trying to convince them that they must work with the humans to save the world.

Vin and Elend seek to conquer the city of Fadrex to uncover its secrets. They face challenges, including the capture of Vin and a confrontation with Ruin. Eventually, Vin makes a sacrificial move to destroy Ruin and herself.
Meanwhile, Sazed learns his proper role as the Hero of Ages and uses his power to reshape the world into a paradise. The survivors, including Spook and Breeze, work to rebuild society under Spook's leadership.

The Alloy of Law (Mistborn, #4)

The Alloy of Law is set in a world resembling the early 20th century, on Scadrial, around 300 years after the events of the original trilogy. It introduces the concept of Twinborn, individuals born with both Allomantic and Feruchemical abilities.
Lawman Waxillium Ladrian and his partner Lessie are investigating a serial killer in the town of Feltrel. During their investigation, Lessie is captured and held hostage by the serial killer. In an attempt to save her, Wax unintentionally ends up killing her.

Five months later, Wax has returned to the city of Elendel, where he is dealing with the responsibilities of his house after the deaths of his uncle and sister. His house is facing financial troubles, and to save it from bankruptcy, Wax must find a suitable high-born lady to marry.
Before meeting with a potential prospect, Lady Steris, Wax is visited by his friend Wayne, who investigates a series of robberies and kidnappings in the city. Wayne asks for Wax's help solving the case, but Wax initially declines. Despite his reluctance, Wax eventually agrees to assist.

At a wedding party, the criminals responsible for the robberies and kidnappings, known as "the Vanishers," appear and attempt to kidnap Lady Steris and her half-sister Marasi. With Wayne's help, Wax saves Marasi and kills most of the Vanishers. However, Lady Steris is abducted, leading Wax to make it his mission to rescue her and solve the case.
Through a series of events and investigations, Wax concludes that the leader of the Vanishers is a former lawman named Miles, who possesses a unique Twinborn ability.

After confronting the bandits at their hideout, Wax, Wayne, and Marasi formulate a plan to capture the Vanishers during their next robbery. They discover that the Vanishers plan to steal a valuable metal called aluminum, immune to Allomancy.
During a battle with the Vanishers, Wax and Marasi capture Miles and save Lady Steris. However, they also uncover the involvement of Wax's presumed dead uncle, Lord Edward Ladrian, in orchestrating the criminal activities. Wax and Wayne decide to stay in the city and work to stop Lord Edward and his organization from carrying out their plans.

Shadows of Self (Mistborn, #5)

In a flashback, Waxillium Ladrian first meets his future wife, Lessie, on a bounty hunt, and they work together to capture a powerful crime boss. In the present, one year has passed since the defeat of the Vanishers. Wax and Marasi have learned about the art of Hemalurgy from a book given to them by Ironeyes. The city's constabulary has deputized Wax.

Wax is approached by Harmony himself, who informs him that a rogue kandra named Bleeder is responsible for the killings and seeks to cause unrest in the city. Wax and Marasi become convinced that the governor will be the next target of Bleeder's attacks. Bleeder leads Wax on a false chase to the governor's mansion, and Wax eventually discovers her true identity. In the end, Bleeder is exposed, and Harmony asserts his control over her, but not before Wax tragically realizes that she is the real Lessie.

Governor Aradel takes charge, and MeLaan discovers a mysterious metal spike recovered from Bleeder. This discovery prompts Marasi to research an ancient god called Trell. Meanwhile, Wax falls into a deep melancholic and isolationist depression.

The Bands of Mourning (Mistborn, #6)

As a teenager, Waxillium Ladrian leaves the Terris Village after killing a murderer. Years later, Wax is about to marry Steris, but Wayne sabotages the wedding. Kandra VenDell recruits Marasi to help find the Bands of Mourning, potent artifacts. Wax joins Marasi after learning his sister Telsin might be in New Seran.

In New Seran, Wax uncovers a conspiracy involving Lady Kelesina Shores and is framed for her murder. The team escapes to Dulsing, where they find a Set warehouse with a damaged warship. Marasi recovers a crucial spike and rescues Allik, who reveals that his people are seeking the bands. They head to a temple, only to find it empty and Telsin as a traitor. Wax is shot, falls into a pit, and has a vision from Harmony.

Marasi discovers the Bands disguised outside the temple. Wax revives, uses the Bands to defeat the Set, and rescues his team. Telsin escapes, and Wax returns to Elendel. The Bands are secured with the kandra. Wax marries Steris, and a bomb kills Edwarn, revealing the man with the spike was Kelsier, not the Lord Ruler.

Secret History (Mistborn, #7)

After being killed by the Lord Ruler, Kelsier meets Preservation and refuses to pass on to the spiritual realm. He races to the Well of Ascension and becomes trapped with Ruin, the entity intent on destroying the world. When Vin unintentionally frees Ruin, Kelsier is also released. Preservation tasked him with finding help, leading him to the Ire, a group planning to steal Preservation's powers. Kelsier takes up the power using a stolen artifact.

Despite struggles, he eventually aids in freeing Spook from Ruin's influence. Kelsier helps orchestrate the removal of Vin's earring spike, allowing her to kill Ruin and ascend. This leads to Harmony, Sazed, recreating the world. Kelsier reunites with Vin and recruits Spook's help to return to the physical realm.

The Lost Metal (Mistborn, #8)

After "The Bands of Mourning," Wax retired, Wayne became a constable, and Marasi became a detective. Wax is now a prominent figure in Elendel politics, and tensions between the north and south persist. Telsin, working for Trell, plans to bring a magical bomb to Elendel. Marasi and the Ghostbloods work to stop this. Wax and Wayne confront Telsin and the bomb, resulting in Wayne sacrificing himself to save the city. Ultimately, Wax lives happily with Steris, and the city honors Wayne by erecting a statue in his memory.
